Love Lettuce |
|
If love is a salad, then love poetry is the lettuce. We don't often consider the lettuce. When we do, we find it is almost all water but water is life. The lettuce is the complementary element in the salad's flavor. Lettuce gives the salad substance. Poetry gives love substance and flavor. Poems about love force us to pause to appreciate love. This book of love poems is a salad. If the poems are the lettuce, you the reader are the rest of it. This salad is built of fresh lettuce. That is to say, this book is about the spring and summer of 2003 and the one who filled those darling seasons on the central coast with love. Having said then that this book is about new love, I should tell you that the publication date of this book is August 21. This date is also the first date of public presentation. Wait, that is not all. August 21 is also the anniversary of the marriage of Jane and Gene Elsdon. They have been married a very long time. They have a very old, seasoned love that is still brand new. This salad, then, is dedicated to old and new love and its participants. Hey, I have run out of time and space and metaphor. Peace and bon appetit, que aproveche. - jack
