BLACK DAYS

BLACK DAYS
The sky lowers, presaging rain out of season.
Ashen air drags overhead, weirdly suspended.
Lightning may streak in a moment.

Poets sitting under small umbrellas,
write down irrelevancies. The well-known Muse,
with the prescience of birds, has flown.

Trucks and cars continue to rumble, witless, unaware
whining along the busy, urgent streets
while the world floats, wobbling slightly,

its axis bent by unrepentent destruction..
Trees seep a slow, endless bleeding. Autumn
hums its disinterested requiem, merciless, invisible.

One wishes to do something, even if only
to set a couple of straw dolls afloat downstream
to carry the evil lassitude out to sea.

But the Spirits no longer favor gestures.
Religion has been overplayed.. A tromping gray hulk
issues from the wings and the third act falls apart,
      ignominiously and without sorrow.



When development comes in at noon, research has already been at work a half day. Thats good! If it were the other way around, things would not be fully extended, function wise and would easily break, would not last long, but would keep garbage men in business. That's why it is called R&D and not D&R. Want some "R"??
